The NH White Mountains has fun ready and waiting for you on every day in every season: Fall, winter, spring and Summer. The spectacular colors of Fall leaves have gone by and the colder weather is upon us, along with all of its winter fun. The mountains have been making snow as fast as they can to get the slopes in great shape for the winter skiing and snowboarding. It will not be long before there is embankments of snow on the ground for snowmobiling, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and all of our other winter activites. Hope you have already  visited Ski Fanatics and gotten you downhill and cross country ski equipment all tuned up and ready to go by my daughter Hallie or one of her coworkers and your snowmobile is all tuned up too. There is still time to buy or rent your NH vacation home before the season gets into ful swing. There has never been a better time to be a buyer in the gateway to NH's White Mountain region. There is great inventory, the prices are low and so are the interest rates. Despite what is reported the banks have money. And if you have cash , cash is  always king. But you gotta move as what goes down will come back up.It is only a matter of time.

DON'T MISS OUT ON THE BEST REAL ESTATE BUYERS MARKET IN DECADES- it will not last.

AND

While you are enjoying our vistas, slopes, snowmobile trails and other winter activities HELP US SAVE OUR WONDERFUL VISTAS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. Stand up and help us by saying NO NORTHERN PASS FOR NH.

NH's White Mountains Region from Concord north to our National  borders and our National Forest in this region are being threatened by a for profit not necessary for systems reliability and without benefit to NH Proposal to bring 135 foot steel tower high tension lines from Canada to serve Mass and Connecticut with lower cost power. NH citizens have always been willing to help other New England States when the need was there. But this is all about Corporate profit and not the need for power. We are being threatened by the NORTHERN PASS PROJECT. Northern Pass LLC is the combined effort of The sovereign province of Quebec owned Hydro Quebec, Connecticut's Northeast Utilities and Mass's NStar. They are trying to snow the public to the false promise of Jobs, tax revenue and even 10% of the power so that it will look like there is some benefit towhat they propose. NH produced 50% more power than it uses. Through efforts of Vermont and NH, the New England States have 18% (or 18 years) more power than they use too. In an effort to put dollars in the pockets of their stock holders they are holding out the promise of cheaper power. This like the jobs and the net tax revenue is all a snowjob. IF NH's vistas are defiled by by these steel monsters, more jobs will be lost than gained , and more tax revenue lost than will be gained and if you think once Quebec controls New Englands power it will stay cheap any longer than it is necessary to put the true green renewable US power companies out of business, then there is great profit in Florida swamp land that you might just want to look into . The whole state of NH is threatened by this horrible prime example of CORPORATE GREED and YOU CAN HELP US STOP THEM or at least force it to be buried if unstoppable.

IF you love NH's White Mountains and you want to help us save it for future generations, take the time to go to www.northernpass.eis the department of Energy's website for the Northern Pass Project and make a "scoping comment" to tell the USDOE that New England has more power than it uses and this project is all about making money for Northeast Utilities, Nstar and Hydro Quebec. We do not need a foreign nation controlling the power for New England even if our countries are friendly. We have the knowledge and the ability to produce power here in the US creating jobs here in the US and keeping out energy consumption money here in the us; instead of shipping all of our power dollars to Canada or the Middle East. This proposal will mar the beauty of NH'S White Mountains for the profit of them with no return for NH ,its citizens or its visitors. There is no truth to the information that it will create jobs, produce a positive tax for cities, towns or the state. The truth is the opposite they will lose US jobs and will cost the cities, towns and state more than they will bring in. There is no truth to their lies that it is too expensive for them to bury the lines -it is too expensive for them to not bury the lines. With new technologies the cost of burying is little more than the cost to put it overhead  and when you factor in lost energy that naturally occurs from long travels of power over lines and winter/summer storm power outages , it is actually cheaper to bury the lines. The power companies make out by charging us for emergency repair services when storms damage our power lines leaving us in discomfort of being without electricity. They make more money when we are without power then when it is going through the lines- go figure. But it is true. So if they do not tend their power corridors of trees that might fall and cut our power they make more money not lose it. It is a win win . They save money to not cut the trees back and they get money when you lose power to get you back online. Ovehead high tension power is known for childhood leukemia , and many forms of cancer not to mention the disruption of the life saving power source that runs pacemakers in our elderly. This is more than about the esthetics. It is about our very way of life. You have the power to help stop this atrocity . For more information on this project you can visit Bury the Northern Pass at Facebook or www.livefreeorfry.org , www.nonorthernpass.org , nonorthernpassnh.blogspot.com  , nonorthernpass.wordpress.com and www.fightnorthernpass.org

For information and maps about what the Northern Pass you can visit their website at www.northernpass.us

And Finally since if this project is given the Presidential permit to cross the US border with Canada the US Department of Energy has to approve it . Their involvement in this project can be seen at www.northernpass.eis

Please do not do what I did in the beginning, think for one minute that the US National Forest will protect the lands that have been set aside for the public us or National Forest. There was a government mandate ten years ago that requires that our public lands be utilized for infrastructure including power lines.  The White Mountain National Forest is in danger of being damaged by this FOR STOCKHOLDER PROFIT form of CORPORATE GREED.  Please don't hope that someone else does the heavy lifting  so you don't have to step up and join this battle. They are counting on your apathy. SHOW THEM that you have grit. STOP THE NORTHERN PASS in its tracks.

This is not about your political persausion. It does not matter if you are republican, democrat, independent or part of one of the other parties croping up . Unfortunately it takes politics to stop it . You don't have to be a New Hampshire citizen if you want to speak up, ask our NH State Senators to vote in favor of HB 648 to stop for profit companies from taking property through Eminent Domain. This goes way across any party lines -its about our way of life here in NH.  Here's NH SENATE contact information and the information on the upcoming hearings on HB648

HB 648 update

The Senate Judiciary Committee will meet in executive session on HB 648 on Thursday, December 8, 1 p.m., State House room 100. The public may attend but no further testimony will be allowed.

Room 100 holds approximately 60 visitors. Be there early if you want a seat.

There will be a rally for property rights at noon in front of the state house. Dress orange but signage should address property rights, not Northern Pass.

There is still time to call or email committee members. Short emails that focus on property right protection will work best at this point. An aide will read and tally them, most likely.

Please do whatever you can to help send 648 on its way to the full Senate with a positive committee vote. Email, call, come to Concord! (It didn't hurt with the Balsams . . . see following item.)

Breaking news on the Balsams. . . .

The Colebrook Chronicle broke the news about the Balsams sale tonight. The soon-to-be new, local owners state that Northern Pass will not cross Balsams land (Tillotson properties)!

If Northern Pass has a plan b to get through Dixville Notch, it's not public information.

Thanks again to the CC and the Jordans for getting out the news fast and in detail. (No wonder that Northern Pass lobbyist grinds his teeth in his sleep about the Colebrook Chronicle.)

BALSAMS HOTEL AND 7,000 ACRES IN PROCESS OF BEING SOLD TO TWO NORTH COUNTRY MEN

After two bids for the purchase of the Balsams Grand Resort Hotel failed earlier this year, the Tillotson Corp. made the decision to wait until the final closing before announcing any new owner of the property. On Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 6, word was received that a deal was in the process of being signed by contractor Dan Hebert, Jr., of Colebrook and Danny Dagesse, founder of Berlin City Auto. Both men were reportedly in Concord on Tuesday to sign papers with Tillotson Corp.  to purchase the 7,000-acre resort in Dixville Notch, which has been on the market for a number of years. The sale includes the entire resort properties, including the hotel, Wilderness Ski area and Panorama Country Club, as well as the 7,000 acres of land. Earlier in the fall, Tillotson Corp. decided to separate the property in an effort to make a quicker sale, however the sale today included the entire property.

The Chronicle was able to confirm that the two men were in Concord for the signing through their spokesman, Scott Tranchemontagne of Montagne Communications. He told the Chronicle on Tuesday evening, “We will have a statement to be released in the morning. But, even if they finished signing the papers today, it is not official until the deeds is transferred” which, he said was expected to take place on Wednesday. In addition, the Chronicle has spoken with employees who had remained at the hotel following its seasonal closure in September and we were told that at 3:30 this afternoon, employees were contacted by Dan Hebert and told that the hotel would be closed indefinitely and that all keys were to be turned in; they were told that renovations would not begin until at least March and that in the meantime the property would remain shut down and not reopen for the winter season.

Hebert and Dagesse have been in the mix of names vying to purchase the hotel for the past couple of years, seeking to put together a working consortium of people and finances to successfully acquire the 150-year-old hotel, which is the home to the First-In-The Nation primary vote each Presidential election year.

The Chronicle spoke with Hebert last week and he acknowledged the rumors which had widely circulated through the region that the “two Dannys” are in fact buying the hotel, but he said he could not talk about it until all the papers were signed. The Chronicle decided to wait on reporting  the pending transaction because other sales agreements involving the hotel fell through at the last moment.

In recent weeks there has been concern by opponents to the controversial Northern Pass powerline project that the project’s planners have approached the Tillotson Corp. about purchasing a portion of the resort to allow the high-tension power lines to cross through. Tom Deans of the Tillotson Corp. had acknowledged to the press that they had indeed been approached by Northern Pass. This news helped launch a  letter and email campaign to the Tillotson Trust and the Attorney General’s office (which would have to approve any sale of the resort) to stop it from happening. A website set up several months ago by employees of the Balsams called Save the Balsams noted on Nov 22: “Your efforts and letters in support of opposing the Northern Pass ARE HELPING! Please keep them coming.”

As far as allowing Northern Pass to cross the property under his and Dagesse’s ownership, Hebert told the Chronicle: “There will be no easement or land sale to the Northern Pass through Tillotson properties” [color added].
